Dr Christine Boinett worked as a health data scientist (bioinformatician) in the infectious disease field for over 10 years and has now transitioned to an exciting new career as a product manager. She is also creator of the Your Digital Mentor Podcast.

  1. Don't over prepare for the next step, be bold and take a leap and don't worry about failure, focus on the learning you have gained from each attempt.

  2. Be aware of unconscious bias so that you're able to navigate it.

  3. Skillfully, take ownership of your career and work on your brand to help you with that.

  4. Be aware of communication habits that diminish the power of your message – using words like just, sorry, actually, kind of or phrases ‘I’m not an expert but….’ ‘am I making sense?’

  5. Don't be afraid to ask and to negotiate.

  6. Be aware of overthinking or ruminating, reflect on mistakes and extract learning but then move on.

  7. Prepare well and practise for interviews and presentations.

  8. Focus on developing your authentic leadership style, there are many ways to lead.

  9. Seek help, guidance, support, connection with others. It's so much easier to make progress with other people supporting you and giving you a balanced perspective.
